What I'm obsessed with right now
Every Summer is a Brat Summer when you're me!
Okay so I wrote 4 posts and then took 3 months off! That’s the type of productivity you can come to rely on from me. I’ve been on the road, being a mom, pushing through a depressive phase and, most importantly, CONSUMING CONTENT!
Summer really sucks for sports. Or so the collective group of sports fans (full blown loser idiots) likes to say but I find Summer to be a wonderful time to dig deep on the stories that really grab you. For me, that’s 72-year-old coaching legend, Bill Belichick, and his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon (yes that’s the real spelling!) Hudson’s, blossoming love story. Apparently he bought her a 75k Porsche which yes, that’s why JordOn is here! Get her a Porsche and a new set of hoots and let Billy Boy LIVE! I believe in them and can’t wait to see what’s next for the absolutely compatible couple!
JordOn is a cheerleader and I will not be making fun of that profession because I just finished watching the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ show on Netflix and these women are incredible! It’s from the same director that did Last Chance U and Cheer (two earlier obsessions of mine) and it is shot so cinematically. The ladies are compelling! Coach Kelli is intense! Jerry Jones’ daughter Charlotte is a psychopath! And there is a sweet rookie dancer named Reece who believes that when people look at her they are seeing Jesus Christ. Amen!
I highly recommend smoking a joint, turning it on and then convincing yourself you could do the Thunderstruck dance if given 24 hours. A perfect evening!
My truest obsession this Summer has been the Karen Read murder trial. A mistrial was declared last week. Sorry, spoiler! But the case and story around it are insane. Karen Read, a Boston-area woman, was on trial for killing her Boston police officer boyfriend, John O’Keefe, by hitting him with her Lexus SUV and then leaving him to die in a blizzard. But nothing is as it seems on the surface. Police cover-ups, a sine fired lead investigator, a MAGA blogger named Turtleboy, pig DNA found in the victim’s wounds. Just absolute chaos! There is a forthcoming Netflix docuseries about the case and trial. And I am not a total true crime guru like some of you other sickos but this one got me good!
When I was in Boston for shows, the other comics I met insisted I get into the trial and I will forever be indebted to them! I consumed like 6 hours of trial content the next day. I have really enjoyed the episodes Kate Casey has done on her podcast, Reality Life, starting with episode 990. She interviews a former FBI agent named Jodi Weber and I am ACAB for life but I’d have a crisp glass of Kim Crawford with Jodi in a heartbeat! I also listened to daily episodes of a show called Canton Confidential, and yes that is local coverage of the trial and everyone’s accent is perfect. I told you it got me good!
Took the little sweetie boy to see Despicable Me 4 and it was cute but him and I had the same review “more Minions!” Like yeah sure Gru is fine but we’re there for the stars!
Oh and my final obsessions are food related. I did get food poisoning in Connecticut and it was so bad I might never be able to have Branzino again but I have found a way to persevere. You never know how strong you are until you’re tested! So my classic Summer go-to is the cucumber, feta, tomato salad. It’s just those 3 ingredients, some good EVOO (and by good I mean like $14) and salt and pepper. Oh my god you will be flying high! You will get on Instagram and go “oh, everyone is on a nice boat in Santorini? Well I don’t give a fuck because I have a dream salad and AC so strong it’s toxic for the Earth!”
And lastly, I am putting store bought pesto on everything! Did my mom make me an herb garden bc I asked her to? Yes! Did I water it once and then let it slowly die in front of my family? YES! So I am buying pesto from the store and putting it on eggs, toast, tomatoes, turkey, cheese, etc. And telling myself I am rich and thin! (I am on a budget and not supposed to be eating after 9pm)
So there you have it. My obsessions as of July 9th, 2024! Which reminds me Megan Gailey Day for the City of Indianapolis was July 7th. I forget my own day sometimes but I did order McDonald’s on July 7th and it was soooooooo delicious so maybe Ronald (McDonald) and didn’t forget after all.
p.s. I AM watching Love Island US. And yes, this season is good and I am catching up. But we have a lot of first timers being like omg this is the best thing I’ve ever seen and honey go back to Season 2 of the UK version where they openly smoked cigarettes and ruined each other’s lives before you start embarrassing yourself and your family with statements like that!
